CDC Meeting in Minneapolis, MN

Attending the CDC meeting in Minneapolis, MN some great sessions. Andrew Webber, from the National Business Coalition on Health spoke about engaging businesses in community programs.  I thought his advice was good suggesting that it is important to engage them as a partner and use there talents as a leaders.  Bringing them to the table will engage them to partner within the community.  Their concern will be the health and productivity of their workers so working together can improve the overall health.   It is not recommended to go and ask for funding better to establish a relationship.
Another good session discussed the results of the Diabetes Prevention Project with the YMCA.  This program continues to grow although Virginia is not one of the states that is participating.  Information should be available soon for new groups to establish this program using different partners. Something the VDC should pursue with our state insurers.
My last session was about social media, and I jumped right in by starting my first blog. Who says you can't teach an old dog a new trick. Actually the information was helpful, I just need a basic introductory class.  The CDC actually has some excellent resources on this topic which I am going to look up, I promise to share when I find them.
More tomorrow.
